Inspired from a young age by my father, who was a sculptor and architectural model maker, I have been designing and making furniture for 20 years, working to commission for clients all over the world.
I work mainly but not exclusively with wood and source sustainable timbers such as Oak, Elm, Cherry, Walnut, Yew and Sycamore, steering clear of tropical hardwoods. Wood is a natural material and varies in its appearance and behaviour, no two pieces are the same. Even in a very simple design the colour and patterns create depth and movement. I buy my wood rough sawn and machine it myself, meaning that I can choose specific boards and grain patterns for my furniture, making the most of any unusual features.
A lot of my work is about making the best use of space. It is often beneficial to make built in pieces which can either minimise their impact, blending into the surroundings or become a feature. The balance between functionality and aesthetics is a fine art.
