| Yew trees rarely die and some are extremely old and have always had significance as meeting places or sacred spaces. Churches have often been built near to them for this reason. If the old wood dies off, a new tree will grow from the same root. The grain is very varied and it's difficult to get wide boards without faults although these can become a feature. Tricky to machine but beautiful and unusual with white sapwood that can also be used in construction. |
